A JetBlue Airbus A320 passenger aircraft operating flight #B61112 from Curaçao to New York JFK experienced a close encounter with a U.S. military aircraft that was not visible on radar systems.
The flight crew of the N809JB-registered A320 visually identified a military tanker aircraft without an active transponder crossing their flight path. For safety reasons, the crew halted the climb and reported the situation to Curaçao Air Traffic Control.
ATC confirmed that the military aircraft did not appear on their radar. The JetBlue crew reported the incident as a “near midair collision.”
The flight continued without further issues and landed safely at New York JFK Airport. It was reported that the FAA has launched an investigation into the incident.
